first of all apoligies on the late running of this article as we were in tenerife visiting our eldest who is currently working long term over there ,so here we go
the welsh national flying club held its second channel race of the old bird programme from the european capitol city of brussels in belgium on sat 11th june
after the few early morning showers that were reported on site by our convoyers had moved over the birds were finally away at 08 45 into a light south westerly wind with broken cloud
on the english side of the channel the weather and wind remained the same and continued along the line of flight , however additional to this there was also the threat of the occational heavy showers brewing up from the west moving along the 350 miles route to the welsh boarders which the birds may need to encounter
with the unfortunate affair at lilliers only two weeks still in fanciers minds when a lot of birds went down the membership turned out once again yes granted maybe with smaller numbers but we thank them for thier continued support additionally this it doesnt detract from the facts that once again their is still a strong element of pride and achievement out there to be gained within the wnfc in 2011
so in regards to an early liberation our fingers were crossed that this would be a more rewarding accounter for both pigeons and fanciers alike and looking at the outcome in view to returns and the time sheets this week it appears that the wnr fed race controlling team got this one spot on
leading the field winning 1st centre section 1st open national and the pieter kos and proff sport challenge trophy are the partnership of lovell bros of crumlin timing in a two year old cheq pied cock on 8hrs 13 mins to record a velocity of 1206.66,flying over 338 miles
this is yet another outstanding performance for this consistant loft ,and will go along side their previous section , national wins performances and respect that they have gained since this organisation was formed in 2009, they then went on to time in a second arriaval this time a yearling dark cheq pied hen a few minutes later recording a velocity of 1189.07 for 2nd centre section 3rd open
2nd open and winning 1st south section once again is last weeks winning loft from lilliers kidd and cooke of newport timing in thier two year old cheq pied cock on 8hr 8min with a velocity of 1191.2 ,
for 1st north section 4th open its d flowers topping that section again timing in on 8hr 19 min with a yearling blue hen
as previous reports will show these three lofts mentioned above have dominated their respected section in 2011 which shows the calibre of both pigeons and mangement housed and maintained to be a successful fancier and compete at the highest level we are proud to have within our organisation
for 5th open 3rd centre section we head up to the rhymney valley loft of yet another previous national winning loft that of mel mayo of bargoed timing in a 3yr old blue cock on 8hr .32 min velocity 1173 im sure mel will be happy with this performance as we move towards bonn a race piont he has previouslly won at national level
so thats it for this week in regards to the top five positions from brussel yes as stated the numbers were expected to be down dramaticlly after lillers with fanciers respectivlly giving their pigeons time to recover .
in the next few weeks the grass gets even longer when he old bird programme comes to an end with the verselle laga and paget pets sponsored huy race on some 38o miles on sat 25th june and the welsh north road federationm sponsored winners trophy from bonn 440 miles finishing us off on july 9th
