well week after week officials ,convoyers and race controllers are slated for any reason possible .
Today we congratulate all parties for contributing to what looks like a good first outing for the welsh national . only speaking to a few fanciers i must admit, but all seems to have gone well.. just met david and karl (convoyers) on their return journey to the yard to thank them for the work and efforts in getting the birds ready for us to get the birds away early
The text service worked without fault ..so thank you to all for adapting to the new system

THE DERBY ARONA TENERIFE ONE LOFT RACE
Winner’s trophy sponsored by  Mr M Gibbons
Its week one of the new season for the welsh national flying club as we prepare for the first of six old bird nationals the first inland from the south east coastal town of Folkestone followed by five heading south through France  , with entries were a little down on the same time last year we can only put this down to the  three major races  taking place on the same day here in wales  ,and therefore again we can only imagine birdage to each would obviously be  effected within  all these said organisations, as fanciers divide their entries to compete in them all ..not ideal for any organisation concerned but seems unavoidable at this stage of the season as each progress in there own right

A clear morning  in kent prior to liberating

Once again in 2019 the welsh national are under the logistical arrangements of the welsh north road federation  as their convoying team headed by David and karl convoying again this season made their way  along the m4 corridor and m25 to the race point in Folkestone  on Friday night departing Newport around 10pm and following an uneventful journey ,the lads reported they  arrived safely  on site under the cover of darkness and dually  settled the lorry in position for an anticipated early liberation come day break
Saturday morning and with an anticipated clear sky and a light head wind reported  on site ,the lads got to work   preparing  to liberate ,whilst the race controlling team were in contact with some major organisations at various sites below Folkestone on the east and south coast, it was agreed by all parties  that  with a clear line ,they would start to liberate from 6.15 am    heading north, which if they cleared well and made good headway would and should be clear of the welsh pigeons who were waiting for a 7am liberation

With a good line of flight west throughout Kent ,Berkshire ,Wiltshire and the forward journey to the welsh border ,the string were cut and the welsh convoy were airborne as planned at 7am in a light west north westerly wind  with the conveyers reporting a clean get away and the birds heading off in the direction of home
At the home end with birds expecting to cover the 180 mile route, times of the first sightings were expected and circulating on 3 hours 40 plus for the leading pigeons considering the light head winds , as everyone sat in anticipation and expectation of being the first welsh national winner of 2019
With the lib-line service down this year throughout the uk and with no replacement currently available the new mobile texting service had been implemented and as such the committee where hoping this transition would work without any faults, which proved to be, as the first arrivals were verified
Taking the top spot timing in two arrivals , claiming  first and second open therefore winning the Malcolm gibbons sponsored race winner’s trophy and the first of five sponsored  entries into this year’s derby arona Tenerife one loft race, we go to  Newport and  the loft of Alan Dunn flying 175 miles, Alan first on the clock timing in at 10.50.36 with a winning vel of 1339.3  is a yearling cheq hen ,bloodlines of which originate from James parker stock  known as jps lofts based in Newbury Berkshire, both parents were purchased back in  2017 and come down through the  Stefan Lambrecht bloodlines , this game hen has flown all the past inland races within the wnrf prior to today’s event flying consistently before coming into this weeks race and claiming its first major award

Alans second arrival another hen a slatey blue on a vel of 1338.7 is another originating from the jps lofts family of pigeons this hen  is based around the infamous “machine” lines and was gifted as a young bird to Alan on one of his many visits to the partnership lofts
,with the dust settling after the race and on catching up with Alan he has asked me if I would  thank all his  friends and fanciers who have contacted him to congratulate him on his achievement and would also like to praise  the convoying team for the condition the pigeons came home in ,also due a mention is  his father john a retired fancier himself ,who over the past years  has put a lot of time into the pigeons  due to Alan’s working  commitments and therefore Alan  would like to share the celebrations with him

For 3rd open we go north to Tredegar to our 2018 fougeres, welsh national winning loft and partnership of d & g Bruton flying in excess of 190 miles in today’s race  timing in the first of their entries on 11.12.09 vel of 1337.3 being a  yearling blue  hen raced on roundabout prior to today’s award she was previously  67th national eastbourne yb and flown consistent  this year been in first few birds to loft every week with club results such as  5th club Epsom 2 weeks ago. The sire was from retired and successful  Iddie Davies from Bargoed of Koopman blood which  won 1st fed and national Maidstone, 2nd fed Newbury, 6th nat fougeres etc sire of many winners for iddie and since perchasing him he is now continuing to succeed for the bruton  partnership  , the dam was bred by Peter Fox and is a direct daughter of Hannibal Dirk Van Dyke, the partnership would also like to send their congratulations to the winner Alan Dunn on his performance ..
In fourth beaten by the narrowest of margins on a vel of 1337.0, we come back down the valley to Newport to the loft and partnership of jack and Mel Beresford and son who following some good performances in 2018 and maintaining such in the past weeks of 2019 today they timed in  on a vel of 1337.0  a yearling cheq cock for 4th open ,flown on roundabout and whilst im informed there’s a variety of bloodlines running through the veins of this pigeon it seems
the most dominant of which comes down from the partnerships of Mr & Mrs Shane & Kelly Lewis of Abergavenny and the Pontypool trio of scammel peploe and Bromley,

We go back north of the welsh valleys to the village of new Tredegar and the partnership of Paul Ireland and Chris Hyman who claim the 5th open position with a 2yr old blue hen which originates from skyrider lofts of gert marsman of Holland  and obtained on the annual trip to the houten  show ,she was sent to the race with a newly hatched yb in the nest and were informed that previous performances include 3 x 1st club positions plus other minor club positions to her credit ,unfortunately we were unable to obtain a photo of the partnership for inclusion in the report due to health and work commitments
With the leading pigeons congratulated after  what seems to be a successful first race, we can look back over the past months and the build up to the new season within the wnfc
it’s been an unsettled few months for the management committee ,with one thing and another as a result of the rpra  and nwhu ongoing situation ,which has been highly profiled, and as a result  we lost a small number of members due to  dual memberships to both unions and the concerns  of the said fanciers in regards to this  ,it’s a situation which inadvertently divided a few here in wales due to our affiliation to the nwhu ,however thankfully at this present time things have settled now racing has commenced and members are slowly returning along with additional memberships to the organisation  looking forward to the competition the wnfc provides ,
Again we would, like to thank the welsh north road federation committee  for again being on board with the wnfc for 2019,not only in the transporting etc ,  but by working closely together in the form of two separate committees both with the same ambitions to move forward ,we`re again able to run with no price  increases during 2019, therefore enabling the wnfc  to once again offer the fancy cheap and affordable racing ,
So were off on our next adventure across the English channel  to Carentan with birdage at a respectable £1.75 per entry ,on board for this race we have a new sponsor in the form of the new generation ipigeon  ets  by the uk suppliers  john Murray pigeon supplies ,they have  kindly donated a complete racing system with a value exceeding £400 and club equipment which will be competed for in the form of an unlimited £2 per pigeon nomination .. surely worth a gamble, also remember it’s a Thursday basketing for this event with a Saturday liberation

Fanciers can come on board on basketing nights, membership fees are £20 for the year plus distances and union charges as applicable all relevant information is available on our website  at www.welshnational.co.uk
