THE START OF 2015
THE PIGEONS AT MAIDSTONE WERE LIBERATED AT 12 NOON INTO A LIGHT SOUTH WESTERLY WIND
EARLY TIMES ..................
sat 9th may and after a 24 hr delay in basketing due to a forecast indicating poor weather on the planned saturday ,the 2015 welsh national flying club campagin finaly got underway from maidstone with a liberation on sun 10th may with an average distance of 165 miles or so to most lofts within the pricipality
at the marking stations basketing figures shows that once again the organisation was well supported and with the acceptance of additional new and previous members returning both leading upto and including basketing night we are please to aknowledge a good turnout for this our first event of the year with one of the seven marking station alone processing over 500 entries ,
with the final pick up shortly after 9pm there was an unevenful journey eastwards to the liberation site in kent the convoy settled down for the night optermistic of an early liberation in the morning
saturday 7.30, and with the morning dawn the convoying team reluctantly reported home that whilst they were happy with the visibility on site ,there was still full cloud cover above them ,and with other federations also experiencing the same conditions and delaying thier liberations both to the south and west towards home, our race controllers made the decition to site tight and await a break in the clouds to give the birds the best possible start,
10.30am and after several updates the news we were anticipating came through , the cloud had broken and federations which previously were holding back were presently liberating indicating that the breakthrough would soon be upon us allowing us to cut the strings ourselves ,with constant contact with the lads on site it was another hour or so that we recieved the news maidstone indicating that everything was good to go both on site and after completing one more check to see who had actually liberated ,the convoying team were given the liberty to prepare the pigeons for a liberation, which went ahead at 12 noon into a light south west wind
leading the field were two of our newest members both from the ebbw vale area ,with the honour of 1st welsh national flying club maidstone and winning the malcolm gibbons challenge trophy goes to dave tippings timing in at 15.26 .42 to record a winning velocity of 1408 ,the winning pigeon a yearling chequer hen of the koopman lines from the loft of john whitaker of sheffield and was one of a kit of six purchased and flown on the roundabout
in2nd place was the loft of p& g snelgrove timing in at 15.28 with a vel of 1407 ,pauls arrival a dark chequer cock yearling cock once again flown on the roundabout and originates and bred down through pigeons from mr abbey from scounthorpe a few years back ,
into third spot is the aber bargoed loft of paul hares who timed in one of his rhino cross bartsoon cross roland janssen roundabout entries on 1404 vel ,this pigeon a blue which flew consistantly as a young bird winning a few minor club positions and also took prizemonies in the local gold ring scheme
rounding off the top four is the ever present bargoed fancier iddy davies on 1403 vel iddys arrival is a 3yr old blue cock of galxay lofts rietvink x van loon cross lefebre dheanen from the masserella family at louella this pigeon is flown on roundabout and at present in 2015 has already scored 2x 1st club positions
so there it is the 2015 campagin is well and trully undeway, in fine style a head wind and a well derserving winner to get to the most northern lofts within the organisation ,in less than a week we move on to caretan on the french coastline an approx distance of 175 miles when we come under the guidence of the west of england combine ,and with such good returns from this race we are optermistic of yet another good turn out for that one and with more fanicers like i say coming on board weekly all we are hopeful for now is that we experience a good racing season like we did throughout 2014 to reward these fanciers for putting their trust in us ,
finally we would like to pass on our personel thanks to linda buckly from the nwhu who has worked hard in assisting us over the past weeks and on the weekend of the maidstone race with distances etc to enable us to compile the final result and on that note could members and marking station secretaries assist us in making sure that all distances are clearly marked on race entry sheets during the transition over to the north west homing union co orinates and calculations
